Nokia is coming back to Bangladesh: This time for real

Nokia Bangladesh 2021

If you are in your 30’s, 40’s or above, you may get nostalgic thinking about Nokia. Nokia feature phones in the ’90s and ‘2000s revolutionized the mobile market. We probably couldn’t imagine one of the most essential industries of today without the contribution of Nokia. Although Motorola was the first brand to release the first commercial mobile phone, many in Bangladesh may think it’s Nokia because of its overwhelming popularity in the early days of the mobile industry in Bangladesh. Nokia is a brand that combined simplicity, durability and charisma, which used to be a true people’s friendly brand.

What happened to Nokia?

After we entered the age of the mobile internet, Nokia started to go behind. Their presence in Bangladesh was not stable. The demand for Nokia smartphones was also falling. Their phones with Windows OS didn’t get expected results. Later they moved to Android, but the features and pricing weren’t competitive enough. Branding plays a significant role, but without good pricing and strong specs, it’s hard to remain on top. The design of the phones wasn’t that distinguished as well.

The good news

Finally, Nokia has established its phone factory in Bangladesh. They will start assembling phones from 26th June this month. Primarily, they will start with two smartphones namely Nokia 4.2 and Nokia G10. Nokia 4.2 is a slightly older phone that was released already two years ago. It is an elegant, compact, stylish-looking phone with decent specs. The phone can be upgraded to Android 11 so, in terms of software, it’s up to date. But the battery is only 3000 mAh. It’s one reason why it may not be the wisest decision to get a fresh start with this gadget. If Nokia wants to get to the leading role, there should not be any significant gap. However, the display is really small and Nokia has top-notch software optimization, so, battery performance will still be better than what you may percieve from a 3000 mAh capacity. Nokia G10 on the other hand looks good altogether but comes with a lower Helio G25 chipset. We at least hope that these will be low-budget phones and they will improvise and bring more premium releases in the coming days and years.
