Design and Build

Let’s start with its design which is one of the main reasons for its popularity. The phone comes in two different colors Mystery White and Starry Black. The black color is more flat and elegant you can say. The mystery white color on the other hand comes with a color changing back panel. It’s basically that if you take the phone under sunlight, the hile color turns into pink. Thn when you take it back in the shadow or in indoor condition, it becomes white again. This is a great design element especially in a budget phone like this. Although color is a very personal choice and some may like it and some may not. And if the phone gets too popular, everyone will come with the same kind of technology and it will lose its attraction. So, from this point of view also some users may prefer the starry black color. The back camera design also looks quite nice and unique.

On the front, we have a very typical waterdrop notch display. You can’t complain about it at this price but a punch-hole display would surely look much more premium. Apart from that, it’s just 8.4 mm thin which makes it quite slim as well.

The phone is made of plastic and there is no screen protection on the front or any dust or splash resistance. So, the build quality is average.

Display

itel S23 comes with a 6.6 inches large HD IPS display. It’s ok for the price. It is offering an additional 90Hz refresh rate feature which is highly appreciated. The color and under sunlight viewing experience is ok. Its not of the best displays but it works just fine.

The 50 MP back caemra sounds good in the specs sheet. The shots looked decent. They are fine, but nothing extraordinary. You may see high contrast, green color boost, somewhat lower details and dynamic range. But we still think its pretty good especially under daylight condition given its cost. For night time slots there is a dedicated night mode which is a fine feature as well. The 1080p video recording has no stabilation. There is feature such as time lapse which is useful.

The 8 MP selfie camera is satisfactory and an adequate deal.

Battery and Performance

We have a 5000 mAh big battery. The charger is 10W which will charge the phone from 0 to 100% in between 2 hours and 30 to 45 minutes. This is a long charging time and an 18W charger would be more fitting for the 8 GB model. Another drawback of the phone is that it comes with the older Android 12 version whereas most phones at this point are coming with Android 13.

The chipset is a Unisoc T606 one with an Antutu score of 230355. It gives smooth gaming performance with 8 GB RAM. This is an ideal chipset for a lower budget smartphone like itel S23. There is nothing to complain about its performance and there is an additional 8 GB extended RAM option. Many phones for this price or even at a much higher price are offering 4 GB RAM only. So, itel wins big time here in terms of performance.

Storage, Connectivity and Others

The 128 GB ROM is UFS 2.1 fast one which is this gadget’s another positive side. There is dedicated MicroSD slot where you can extend the storage for up to 1 TB.

We have all necessary connectivity features such as FM Radio, Bluetooth, GPS, WLAN, OTG, USB Type-C and so on. The sound quality looks ok but you have see light distortion is full volume. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the side which is its another stylish feature. Apart from that, you’ll get an earphone on the box which is rare these days and a plastic back cover.
