We are coming to an early review of the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro smartphone which was very recently released in China. The pricing of the phone is very attractive but it’s like almost any other release in China by a Chinese brand. The price is usually higher in Global or local releases outside of China. But let’s have a quick look at its prices first:
Pricing
| Model | 元Chinese Yuan | $USD | €Euro | ৳BDT |
| 8/128 GB | 1499元 | $206 | €195 | ৳22,800 |
| 8/256 GB | 1599元 | $220 | €208 | ৳24,300 |
| 12/256 GB | 1799元 | $247 | €233 | ৳27,300 |
| 12/512 GB | 1999元 | $275 | €259 | ৳30,300 |
| 16/512 GB | 2099元 | $288 | €272 | ৳31,800 |
As we are reviewing this phone, all the above models are available at 1000元 discount in Xiaomi China official online store, so, the price is even lower at the moment.
Intro

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 is the top smartphone in Bangladesh of 2023 in terms of popularity. it has been often called the “national phone of Bangladesh” by reviewers around the web. It was the case for Redmi Note 11 and Redmi Note 10 as well. But for some reason, in the 13 series, the Pro model has gained more focus and attention than the regular Redmi Note 13. Of course, the Pro model comes with much better features, but the price is also higher.
However, it’s more common now to buy a phone unofficially or order via international means which allows consumers to buy phones at a similar price in those countries. The official prices from foreign brands are usually higher but they also provide an official brand warranty, and dedicated customer service and the phones are also specially made or customized to match the network and services related to the country. For example, some Chinese Redmi Note 13 Pro phones may not support Google Play Store and you may need to download it via a third-party service. Also, some Play Store apps may have compatibility issues with the Chinese version. So, you have to consider stuff like that if you decide to buy the Chinese version from a foreign country.
What’s truly special about this Phone?

Xiaomi phones, especially the Redmi Note series phones are viewed in many countries as people’s phones. Its look, user interface, hardware and software quality, camera, performance and pricing are generally trusted and appreciated. Xiaomi also has a huge community base. But that is indeed not sufficient in the mobile phone industry.
Buyers want upgrades in features, pricing and style to match the latest trend and Xiaomi has been leading it for quite some time in the lower-mid and mid-range segment. Now, the cost looks promising and we have already discussed it. Do we see that kind of style and feature upgrade in it also? Let’s get into it.
Design

The white color seems to be its signature color model right now. We have seen a couple of hands-on reviews and they were all with the white color. It has a marble kind of texture on the glass back which looks premium and new. This is not a very common kind of texture in a smartphone. It would glaze under sunlight and it’s nice if you take it on the beach on a sunny day and let it rest next to you. We liked the purple color very much as well. Purple was long known as the color of nobility and it sort of fits with it. However, it’s light purple and we hope someday we’ll have a truly elegant dark purple Redmi Note phone. The Black and Blue colors are also pretty nice.

The shape looks more boxy or square even though we have some curves on the edges. The camera setup looks as same as the body style and we liked it. It’s not exaggerating anything and there is this minimal, contemporary elegant touch to it. It’s just 8 mm slim and weighs 187 grams. Everything on the outside looks perfectly balanced and we hoped for no less than that from it.
Build
The glass back is regular glass and has no protection but the front side is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus which is one of the latest and strongest Gorilla Glasses out there. It’s stronger than the Gorilla Glass 5 and slightly less strong than the most recent Gorilla Glass Victus 2. But you can still drop it from a regular height without a care. It is IP54-certified dust and splash resistant which means you can take it outside in the light rain or take it to the shower which may produce steam but you can’t put it under the water or submerge it so to speak and also better not to carry it openly under heavy rain.
Display

Here it gets very interesting. A 6.67-inch Quad HD+ 1220 x 2712 pixels OLED display with 446 ppi, 68 billion colors, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ in a mid-range phone? This is a flagship display. Even most lower flagships still come with a Full HD+ display. There is a 120 Hz refresh rate, and 1800 nits peak brightness. You may wonder where is the punchline and we have to quote from the movie Joker:
“There is no punchline.”
-The Joker
A bold flagship display is what you are getting and you should have no doubt about it.
Camera

But hold on there. Let’s go a little slower. There is a 200-megapixel back camera. We have seen samples and it’s nice but don’t buy into that 200 MP thing. We know that Apple is giving the best camera in iPhone 15 Pro Max with a 48 MP shooter and we have to mention it because many consumers still come with this question.
What’s interesting is that, according to a reviewer on YouTube directly from China, the Note 13 Pro camera video has better quality than the Note 13 Pro+ model which is more premium. You can check the comparison in the link (reviewer on YouTube) and decide for yourself.
We would broadly say that it’s a good camera with features such as Multi-directional PDAF, dual-LED flash, OIS and an ultrawide lens. Additionally, there is stabilization for 4K recording. But the big cut or the huge cut is in its 16 MP front camera. It’s just an average mid-range selfie camera that brings this flying gadget right to the ground. You’ll see some soft tones and there is also a maximum 1080p recording without any stabilization. If a selfie camera is very important for you, it’s not that kind of mid-range killer in that sense.
Battery
There is a regular 5000 mAh battery with 67W PD 3.0 fast charging. The PD 3.0 or the USB Power Delivery Revision 3.0 technology allows power delivery of up to 100W through a single cable. In easy words, you’ll get a full charge in 44 minutes and it’s a good time.
Performance

This is something that you have been waiting for. 4 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, hmm it sounds new first of all. It has an AnTuTu Benchmark score of 612735 and ranks in the 41st place in Nanoreview September 2023 chipset ranking. You’ll probably be shocked to know that the gaming score is only 38 (out of 100) of this 4 nm chipset. Take the Snapdragon 778G which has an overall ranking of 50, it has a gaming score of 41. So, despite having better CPU and battery life, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 used in Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro remains behind in terms of gaming performance.
Take the Poco X5 Pro which runs on the Snapdragon 778G and has actually better performance than this new Redmi Note phone and this is where Xiaomi made its next cut after the selfie camera. But we’d like to mention that it is still a decent chipset minding the price and all the other features. You’ll get 8 / 12 / 16 GB actual built-in RAM options with 128 / 256 / 512 GB (UFS 3.1 ROM. But then a MicroSD slot is also missing.
Sound quality and other features
The sound quality is great with stereo speakers and 24-bit/192kHz audio. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor. You’ll get a secondary noise-cancellation microphone as well. There are NFC, Infrared, USB Type-C etc. essential features. The device supports 5G and runs on Android 13 out of the box.
