Two new A series smartphones were introduced by Samsung in Vietnam yesterday on 12th December. These are the Samsung Galaxy A15 and Galaxy A25 5G. There is also a 5G version of the Galaxy A15 which comes with a different chipset with 5G support. Everything else remains the same as the regular 4G a15 model. Lower-priced 5G phones are not yet popular here in Bangladesh as 5G is available in a very limited test space right now. It is not yet sure when it will be commercially available for everyone, therefore; the demand isn’t that rich. Consumers rather prefer to have a 4G phone with stronger specs.
Let’s have a look at the starting price of these devices in Vietnam:
Galaxy A15 4G VND 4,990,000 (BDT 22,600 / $206)
Galaxy A15 5G VND 6,290,000 (BDT 28,500 / $260)
Galaxy A25 5G VND 6,590,000 (BDT 29,900 / $272)
As you can see, all of these devices are in the mid-range segment. So, A huge plus point is that these are some of the first mid-range smartphones to offer the latest version of Android which was released in October. Android 14 is already available in a few flagships. But if you are on a low budget for purchasing your next gadget and want the latest software from a reliable brand like Samsung, read on.
Galaxy A15
As we said, the 5G version of this device only has a different chipset with the 5G support. We are not going to discuss it, as everything else is a carbon copy. So, let’s stay with only the 4G model here. We are getting a Samsung OLED panel with an eye-care feature (blue light filter). The resolution is FHD+ with 90Hz refresh rate, 6.5-inch size and 800 nits high brightness mode. The design and the colors match an elegant, minimalist contemporary taste. There is a so-called Key-Island design on the right side where the buttons are placed. It provides a better grip and looks stylish.
The camera setups are 50+5+2 MP and 13 MP on the back and front, respectively. They may sound average at the first glance. But Samsung mid-range cameras are some of the best in the industry, especially in recent seasons. They should not fail to thrill you for what you are paying. Having said that, the video recording quality is limited to FHD 1080p@30fps. You could expect some stabilization or 60fps quality and yes, this is somewhat of a deficiency.
In the performance section, it packs a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset and 8 GB RAM. It’s fair given the cost and should be able to satisfy mobile gamer’s needs. The battery size is 5000 mAh and the charging support is 25W. The charger is NOT included in the box and that’s a big bad news. So, the price of the phone is actually higher because we do need a charger. We give a thumbs down to any brand or any phone that comes with this policy. On the brighter side, we are getting the Samsung Knox feature, which offers an added layer of security by storing sensitive information such as your PIN and passwords in a separate vault. Samsung is offering up to 4 years of OS and 5 years of security updates with this device, which makes it a highly attractive option for long-term users.
Galaxy A25 5G
The A25 has a single 5G variant with 6 or 8 GB RAM options. It comes with the same 6.5” Super AMOLED Full HD+ eye-care screen. But here we are getting 120Hz refresh rate and a higher 1000 nits high brightness mode. The design looks very identical to the A15 but we see a bit of a texture on the back in some of the colors and they look nice.
The rear camera has a few significant improvements. We got better focus, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and a better 8 MP ultrawide lens. There is 4K video recording support as well. The 13 MP front-facing cam, however, looks the same except that it has a higher f/2.2 aperture. The battery size, changing stays the same and yes, the charger here is also not included in the box.
The 5 nm built Samsung in-house Exynos 1280 chipset isn’t particularly a performance monster. It’s, in fact, quite mediocre at this price range. But you have to consider Samsung’s hardware and software optimization, which pushes performance further in all aspects from gaming to multitasking, internet browsing, everything. That’s one of the major reasons why Samsung is still the top smartphone brand in the world. Then we have Android 14 here as well with the same four years of OS upgrade and five years of security patches. In the audio section, stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos sound are added. There is no mention of an IP rating for dust/splash resistance or a display protection such as a Gorilla Glass, which are some of its disadvantages.
