Despite having phone assembling factories, Samsung Mobile Bangladesh has been putting a very unreasonable official price tag for a long time now compared to the price elsewhere in the world. This is the case for their entry-level to flagship smartphones. It can be the case that many of their flagship phones can’t be assembled in Bangladesh because of the lack of infrastructure. This means they have to pay a very high amount of import tax, which gives the brand a justification to add extra fees to the international pricing elsewhere. But this is not acceptable for their entry-level smartphones because they should be able to assemble them here. Even if they didn’t have any phone assembling factory in the country, the pricing of these low budget phones are no less than ridiculous.
Samsung decided to reach a new level with their latest Samsung Galaxy A05 smartphone. There are two different variants of this gadget: 4/64 GB, priced at BDT 17,599 and 6/128 GB which will cost you BDT 22,499.
Let’s start with the 6/128 GB model. It was first released in Malaysia back in October. The price as of today is the same as it was in the initial release date, which is 649 Malaysian Ringgit. That’s about 15,400 in Bangladeshi Taka. So, Samsung is Charging BDT 7,000 extra for the Bangladeshi consumers. It’s also for sale in India and the release price is mentioned as 14,999 Indian Rupee, which is about BDT 19,800 but it is available at a discounted price of 12,499 Rupee and that is about 16,500 Bangladeshi Taka. So, compared to India the price is about 6,000 Taka higher. The brand never released a statement for this wide open inadequate business policy for BD customers.
And what are we getting for features on the phone? An HD+ 60Hz refresh rate screen for BDT 22,499? That’s literally the configuration of an under BDT 10,000 phone. There isn’t even a fingerprint sensor on the phone. It can also be that Samsung didn’t include a charger in the box, which they have been doing for many of their phones lately. But you have to check that part with their customer service and we are not sure about it. We are dealing with a plastic body, no noise cancellation microphone, no IP rated dust and splash resistance, no screen protection. There are some decent features, including its camera, performance, battery backup and the software side. But even for those, the cost is way too high. Nothing about this phone fits the pricing.
It reached a point where we are thinking that there might be a big glitch in the Samsung Bangladesh entity. We’d therefore like to draw attention to the Samsung headquarters to look at this because we don’t see any other brand in the industry having this issue. Then it is also easier for bloggers, reviewers and news publishers like us to provide a more convenient review of their gadgets.
