Tecno Spark 20 smartphone is officially launched in Bangladesh today on 11th January 2024. It has a single 8/256 GB variant which is priced at BDT 16,990. There are two color options: Gravity Black and Cyber White. The international variant has some other color options, such as Neon Gold and Magic Skin 2.0 (Blue), but these are not available as of now.
The first question we have asked is that is Tecno Mobile going backward? Despite having a few decent features, there is no way for us to recommend this device to our readers. Let’s start with its design. It has an upgraded iPhone duplicate design. It means it looks closer to the style of an iPhone than Tecno Spark 10 Pro, for example. Those metallic kind of circles around the rear cameras look premium. We do prefer creative and tasteful designs over duplicate designs. At the end of the day, this is no more than a cheap copy. However, this is still a user’s individual preference, and it’s everyone’s choice. The dynamic notification bar around the punch-hole camera is a fine feature but is available in many of the latest phones in this budget range.
The big disadvantage is really the HD+ screen for a 17K price tag. An iPhone duplicate design with a lower resolution screen doesn’t do it for us. The body is made of no more than plastic and the chin bezel is fairly thick. We do have an IP53 dust and splash resistance, which is appreciated. There is no screen protector, though.
The camera is also not what we expected. The Spark 10 Pro camera was one of the finer choices around this cost. But this is a downgraded camera. If you compare it with the camera of a lower priced phone Like Xiaomi Redmi 13C, you’ll see how the Redmi 13C camera clearly stands out with better focus, much more vibrant and depth of colors. You can still work with both the front and rear cameras. The night mode does a good job as well as the portrait mode. The clarity of the selfie shots are also quite good. But there are better choices and even Tecno’s own Spark 10 Pro from last year has better camera quality so we don’t see any need for this.
5000 mAh battery with 18W charger combo is adequate. The chipset is a MediaTek Helio G85. Here again, many phones will give you a slightly better Helio G88 or even a Helio G99 chipset. So, this is average. There is also an Android 13 version while Android 14 was already released a few months ago. This is not a big deal at this point since lower budget phones are still coming with Android 13 and we are expecting an Android 14 update for this device in the future. But the point is, we are not getting anything new here as well.
There are a few positive sides, such as DTS dual stereo speakers, 256 GB storage, and a dedicated MicroSD slot. These features are admirable but they are more of side features where user concentration isn’t that big.
