Apple announced iPhone 13 series about three weeks ago. The series contains four models like the previous year. These are iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. The phones are expected to arrive in Bangladesh by mid-November. While some say, it is enough of convenience for purchase that these are the newest iPhone models even if there is no upgrade on features. But let’s be realistic. There are some upgrades although they are not way too many, we have some fair updates, especially in the camera section.
iPhone 13 mini and 13
Let’s start with the design. We have new colors, a 20% smaller notch on the front and a diagonal camera module on the back. The diagonal design is to add new camera features such as a larger wide-angle sensor and sensor shift and not for the sake of the distinguished design from the previous models. Sensor shift stabilizes the sensor instead of the lens which results in better image stabilization and image quality. Previously this feature was added only in the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The wide-angle lens will capture 47% more light so, it’s great for low-light photography.
We also have the new cinematic mode when it comes to video recording. It creates depth effects and focus transitions automatically which are found in professional movies. The depth effect can be edited and adjusted after the recording. The recording also takes place with Dolby Vision HDR that allows finer contrast, brightness and a wider amount of colors compared to regular recordings. Then there is Smart HDR 4 which recognizes up to four different people in a scene and optimizes their skin tone, contrast, lighting and so on.
Another new feature for photo capturing is called Photographic styles. It allows to create a personal style for the pictures. These features such as night mode, cinematic mode, photographic styles, Dolby Vision HDR and Smart HDR 4 aren’t only available in the back camera but also in the front.
There is also improvement in battery life in Both iPhone 13 and 13 Mini. 13 Mini has 1.5 hours more battery life whereas iPhone 13 is offering 2.5 hours more battery life than its predecessor. We have the new A15 Bionic chip which has 21% faster processing speed and 15% faster GPU than the previous A14 bionic. The storage is also starting at 128 GB instead of 64 GB. There are also more 5G bands than in previous years which means faster 5G connectivity.
iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max
These come are coming with all the new features in 13 and 13 Mini plus some more. We have the so-called ProMotion feature which is now giving a full-on 120Hz refresh rate. There are macro photos and videos feature and improved night mode. The telephoto lens is upgraded to 3x optical zoom. Video recording has an additional ProRes mode here which is used in professional recordings.
Both Pro (1.5 hours more) and Pro Max (2.5 hours more) are also coming with better battery life. These phones are also thicker and heavier than the models from last year because of the improved battery life. 13 Pro Max is also offering a 1 TB storage model which is first even in an iPhone and still quite rare in smartphones.
