Oppo A16e: Not a timely release

Oppo A16e teaser

Oppo brings a new phone namely Oppo A16e to Bangladesh. The 4/64 GB version is available and it is priced at ৳13,990 but is available at a discount price of ৳12,990. The phone was first released in March 24 2022. So, it’s just one month old. So, why do we say it’s not a timely release?

Timely means it is just not a well-timed phone. It is not matching the style and demand of contemporary scenario. We have a very basic-looking design, which is not always bad. There are many consumers who prefer a minimal, average look. It is up to the taste of the individual. But we do not have any fingerprint sensor, which is a clear disadvantage in a phone at this price point. Then there is just a single back camera, which is also not bad. Afterall, the added ultrawide, macro lense and depth sensor in those quad camera phones are mostly not useful. But the quality of the camera is nothing that impressive and the same goes to the 5 MP front camera.

We have a HD+ display with a Gorilla Glass protection which is a plus point. But then we have a 4230 mAh battery with 10W charging. It’s not unfair but mediocre especially when many phones are coming with 5000 mAh battery and 15W or 18W charging at this expense. However, the real issue is in its chipset. The chipset is the heart of a smartphone. The longevity, day to day performance, gaming, software quality, even battery and camera are influenced by it. We have a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset here. That’s something we consider almost unacceptable in a phone that costs over ৳10,000. It gets a gaming score of 7 in nanoreview and a CPU score of 16. Now, let’s see the score of the chipsets used in some of the other top phones in this price range.

From the table above, we can see why Oppo A16e is quite behind in the competition. It is closer to Samsung’s Galaxy A03s, but Samsung is offering fingerprint sensor, faster charging, bigger battery, slightly better camera, USB Type-C and so on which Oppo A16e isn’t offering. So, it’s a phone that we can’t suggest at this moment in time.
