Just a few days ago Redmi 13C popped up on Amazon US website by a well-rated seller where it was mentioned that the phone is coming with a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. After a couple of days, Xiaomi officially announced this phone in Nigeria and we can see that it packs a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset which is the biggest change. The pricing is set at 98,100 Nigerian Naira (BDT 13,500) for the 4/128 GB model and the 8/256 GB version will cost you NGN 108,100 (BDT 14,900).
So, what’s new? The design definitely looks upgraded compared to the Redmi 12C which has been a massive success for Xiaomi in many markets around the globe. We are getting Android 13 here and an Android 14 can very well be available in the future. However, there is no such promise as of now from Xiaomi. But the Redmi 12C came with Android 12 and is upgradable to Android 13, so, at least one upgrade makes sense for the 13C as well.
A 6.74-inch huge HD+ 90Hz screen is included and the 50 MP primary camera should provide better results also as Xiaomi presented it on their teaser along with the screen. It is supposed to have improved image processing according to Xiaomi. The 8 MP selfie shooter comes with a soft light ring, which is a highly trending feature at this moment. There is Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the front. Xiaomi did various durability tests such as roller, power button, headphone jack and charging port tests. Added features such as TÜV Low Blue Light certification and TÜV Flicker-Free certification for a comfortable and caring viewing experience have been included.
Now comes the performance part. Well, no Helio G99, but we were a bit surprised anyway to see a Helio G99 chipset in the rumored specs as it doesn’t fit with the rest of the specs. The phone has a AnTuTu v10 score of 290070. With the 4 GB RAM variant, gaming is okay. If you pick the 8 GB model, you’ll have much more comfort and a full lag-free experience for day-to-day usage and regular gaming. There are also 4 GB and 8 GB virtual RAM options, respectively. Storage is no issue as there is up to 1 TB external memory option via the MicroSD slot.
But the disappointing fact remains that the phone includes a 10W charger in the box and supports 18W charging. If you are to buy an 18W charger, it loses its competence in specs-price combination. A 10W charger is just simply not acceptable, especially for the price of the 8/256 GB model. On the bright side, there is a fast and accurate side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
