Vivo Y27s was first spotted in Indonesia on 7th November this year. But that model has a punch-hole screen. Today on 2nd of December we got it in Bangladesh however, with a waterdrop notch display. So, some are confused if that’s a different phone altogether. This is not new for Vivo. We have already seen this kind of incident with the Vivo V29e Indian and Bangladesh model. The Bangladesh model came out with a totally different design and much lower specs. So, this time we have checked stuff thoroughly, and we found out that the fundamental difference is really the design of the front camera module.
The phone is priced at BDT 22,999. There are two different colors: Burgundy Black (which looks more like chocolate color) and Garden Green (more of a mint or light green color). There is just one 8 GB RAM, 128 GB ROM variant at this point. The international variant also has a 256 GB storage model.
So, we are going to assess the device in light of its cost. For about 23K price, you’d expect not the best but a fairly strong mid-range smartphone. The design failed already on the front side with that V-notch. But the back side looks pretty nice. It has a glitter effect which was of our liking. There is no screen protection, and the body is made of plain polycarbonate (plastic). We got IP54 dust and splash resistance, but it doesn’t make up for the rest of the weak build quality.
A 6.64” Full HD+ IPS LCD screen is added that supports 90Hz refresh rate and 650 has nits peak brightness. An AMOLED panel was well-expected and higher brightness. It’s still sort of tolerable, but remains behind in the competition. The camera is where it could get our proper attention. We were sceptical, with the 50+2 MP primary and 8 MP selfie camera. It does sound very average. But like we saw in Vivo Y36, the quality here also carried an impact on us. The color tone looks extremely natural in good daylight conditions. This goes for the cameras on both sides. The back camera has better details, but the selfie camera looked very satisfactory as well. Yes, we have checked hands-on video reviews. The video recording quality was satisfactory as well. But there is a maximum 30fps and 60fps would have been better or at least some stabilization which is missing as well.
Its 5000 mAh battery with 44W charger earns a complement. Battery backup should be satisfying and a full charge takes less than an hour. Vivo mid-range phones are not recognized for their performance. This one isn’t any different. It has a 6 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G chipset. Look at the comparison below with a regular chipset like MediaTek Helio G99, which is accessible even at a cheaper price in many official phones.
As you can see, the Snapdragon 680 doesn’t count at all. Xiaomi used it in their popular Redmi Note 12 smartphone and we are not not a fan of that either. But Xiaomi at least added many other better features which Vivo Y27s is lacking. Yes, it has a fast UFS 2.2 internal storage with up to 1 TB dedicated MicroSD slot and up to 8 GB virtual RAM option. But it doesn’t cover up for the sizable gap in the chipset. There is Android 13 and we do not know at this point if it will receive any further Android updates or not.
