Here is all you need to know about the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Samsung Galaxy S24 series teaser

Galaxy S24 phones (Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra) were announced on 17th January by Samsung and we took a few days to carefully analyze these gadgets and learn their features from various top reviewers from around the web. These are not cheap phones. In fact, the pricing is higher than the latest iPhones so, they have to be the best. But are they? Because they may have some exciting top-grade new and innovative features, but to beat Apple you have to consider tons of different things. And if you are not the best at all those things, the pricing may put down a lot of users. We can say one thing for sure, we are not buying these phones.

Let us first tell you the common things in all these gadgets. Then we’ll move to the individual specs. All these three devices come with Android 14. Samsung promised 7 generations of further major Android upgrades (that’s up to Android 21) and 7 years of security update. So, if you want a default device for your home or for general all-in-one work purpose, this is a very attractive deal. Only the latest Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are offering the same amount of crazy Android and security updates but they were released in October last year, so, with Samsung you are getting the longest period of security updates right now.

All of them include the Samsung DeX (Desktop Experience feature), which enables you to connect (wired/wireless) them to a monitor. This way you can use them like a CPU to turn these devices into a full-on Android PC. They also have the new Galaxy AI feature that can perform a variety of tasks but is mostly related to text, speech and photo editing. Let us give you some examples of what the Galaxy AI can do:

Photo editing

You can now easily separate a certain object/subject from a photo just by a touch to rotate them, change their background, adjust colors, positions and so on.

Circle to Search

You can capture a photo or pick any from your gallery and then circle a certain area from the photo with your finger, let’s say a pair of shoes, and then Google will try to show you what specific model those shoes are or other similar shoes like them. So, if you see a pair of shoes that you really like, you can buy them or order online quite comfortably. You can do the same with a flower, a fruit or a cat to know more about them.

Real time text format editing

Let’s say you speak informally and it’s difficult for you to write a formal letter. You can use the voice to text feature and set a specific tone such as “formal” and then start speaking. The Galaxy AI will turn everything you say into a formal toned text. It can be done vice versa. You can also set a funny tone, for example.

Live call translation

Let’s say someone called you who speaks Spanish, but you speak English. You can turn on the Galaxy AI and it will translate what the person is saying into English for you as the person is speaking. These features are not perfect and they may sometimes miss the exact word the person is saying. You can also apply this feature for the voice to text option. It is not perfect in terms of accent and context recognition, but still pretty impressive for the first generation. Maybe it will get better in the next couple of years.

AI Summarizer

Let’s say you are having a conversation with someone and the voice to text feature is on while you are having the conversation. When you finish, you can use the AI summarize option and the phone will present your key points from the conversation. This is great for professional meetings in workplaces and so on.

Galaxy AI has a few other features, but these are some of the main ones. All three devices are water resistant and have a matt finished back compared to the glossy finish of the previous gen. Galaxy S flagships. The designs look slightly upgraded altogether. They also have Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screen technology with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 2600 nits peak brightness.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is included, but many countries will get Samsung’s new Exynos 2400 chipset for the S24 and S24+ models. These chipsets are close to each other in-terms of performance, but let’s be honest, Qualcomm is ahead. The internal storage type is UFS 4.0, which is the fastest at the time of their release. They all have a large vapor cooling system, up to 8K video recording option, dual stereo speakers and high-quality audio tuned by AKG. Samsung Knox Security & Secure Folder, in-display fingerprint sensor, 5G support are some other common features.

Galaxy S24

This is the smallest device among the three. The screen size is just 6.2-inch which can be pretty small for many, especially who like media consumption or gaming. On the other hand, it’s compact, comfortable to hold, carry or for putting it in your pocket and convenient for general everyday tasks. So, some may like that part of it. It has a Full HD+ screen and for this price you could expect Quad HD+ resolution. This is a clear downside for us. It’s pretty robust with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 front & back side and an armor aluminum metal frame. It has Wi-Fie 6e but no Wi-Fi 7. Both the selfie and the rear camera look the same like last year’s Galaxy S23 on the specs sheet. However, we got improved hardware and software, so the camera quality should be better too. Its smaller 4000 mAh battery isn’t the best, but better than you may think. The screen size is smaller with lower FHD+ resolution and there is Samsung optimization so, battery life should be satisfactory. The charger is 25W. There are also wireless and reverse charging options. The base variant has 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, which goes up to 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.

Galaxy S24+

This one is very similar to the Galaxy S24 except that it has a bigger 6.7-inch screen and a higher Quad HD+ resolution. The battery size is also a bigger 4900 mAh with a stronger 45W charger. There is no 8/128 GB model here and the base variant starts with 12/256 GB. So, everything that was missing in the S24, you are getting them in the plus version. This is a good deal and we think it is more worth to peak the plus model.

Galaxy S24 Ultra

Things change quite much here. We got a whole different kind of design. It’s very boxy. A full square size with sharp edges. It’s practically not that sharp, but still it can feel a bit annoying to some. The screen size is 6.8-inch. There is Stylus Pen support, which is included with the device. The frame is made of titanium here, like we have seen in the latest Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and 15 Pro smartphones and also in the Xiaomi 14 Pro. This is stronger and lighter than aluminum or stainless steel. The screen is protected by a new Gorilla Glass Armor. It is the strongest Gorilla Glass version by far. The phone is a bit heavier compared to the other two in this series.

A big change is in the camera section. We have a 200 MP primary shooter and also a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens. We have seen a comparison with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It’s better in many cases but lacks sharpness. We liked the S23 Ultra camera better in terms of sharpness. It’s definitely much behind the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera. You can check this article out to know why. But if you are an Android fan, Galaxy S24 Ultra is offering one of the best cameras right now.

We got Wi-Fi 7 here, and that’s a big deal for many. The battery size is 5000 mAh with the same charging system as the S24+. You’ll get up to 1 TB storage and there is Ultra Wideband support as well.
